I don’t even know where to begin, this wedding was just so amazing. When Katelyn first emailed me about shooting their destination wedding in St Lucia I could barely believe my eyes it sounded so magical. And when the day finally dawned it more than lived up to all my expectations. Katelyn and Brent started dating in college (where I also know Katelyn from), and Brent says that the day he sat down next to her in class he came home, called his friend Will (who was to be his best man) and said “today I met the girl I’m going to marry”. The rest is history! He proposed to Katelyn on a cruise last year so it seemed only right that the two of them return to paradise with 18 of their closest friends and family to tie the knot.
The day dawned bright and hot and I spent the morning with Katelyn and her mom and sister, getting dressed, enjoying mimosas, and preparing for the day. When the time came for their first look I met up with Brent and asked him how he was feeling. Katelyn had told me she thought he might cry, and he said “I might, but I’m going to try not to”. I encouraged him to just let go and give himself freedom to feel whatever emotions he felt, and respond to those however he wanted, fully embracing the day. He took my advice to heart I think, as you’ll see in the photos of the sweet and emotional toasts friends and family offered during the reception. Once the first look and glorious portraits were done, the ceremony started and the two of them promised each other forever with the gorgeous mountains of St Lucia in the background. Then it was off to the cocktail hour reception for toasts and cake, and then everyone changed into something more comfortable the for the main reception, which was a sunset cruise around the island with rum punch, music, and champagne. Y’all, there’s no wrong way to do a wedding reception, but this is definitely the RIGHT way to do one.
Overall it was one of the most fun, laid-back, joyful weddings I’ve ever photographed. Brent just ADORES Katelyn and you can see it in the way he looks at her. These two are so sweet together and it was such an honor to photograph their destination wedding in St Lucia! Congratulations you two, and best of luck in this new adventure together!!
