These are the types of shoots I LIVE for. Last August Jeff and Katherine and I spent a full day trekking around for their Olympic Peninsula anniversary session. From one of the northernmost points on the continental US to a windswept, foggy beach that required a harrowing climb down a scree-covered cliffside, to Hurricane Ridge at sunset, we got the full scope of this dramatic spot on the west coast. Thanks to the masterful direction and styling of Lacy Geary, the addition of a jaw-dropping skirt from the fabulous Sweet Caroline Styles, and a gorgeous bouquet from Gather Design Company, this shoot was one of my favorites of last summer.
The way Jeff looks at Katherine just slays me. His gentle tenderness throughout the day towards her spoke of years of love and care that I was honored to be able to capture. And Katherine, with her curly red hair and joyful laugh lit up the whole coastline. My favorite part was the descent onto the beach, halfway through the day. Katherine had her skirt in her backpack and we lowered ourselves, one by one, down a steep slope with the help of a thin rope left by hikers before us. We slipped and slid down the incline, calling out instructions and encouragement to each other, and I had one of those moments where I know for sure I’m doing exactly what I was meant to do, called to do. And as we stumbled out onto the dark sand at the bottom, the fog blew away for the smallest instant and we saw the sea stacks and rock formations just off the coast. And then it was gone, the fog returning and socking us in, on our own private beach. It felt like we were the only people in the world. Olympic Peninsula anniversary session
