Caroline + Evan’s Secret Waterfall Adventure Elopement Day

Caroline and Evan are the original adventurers, as they planned this epic, Private Waterfall Elopement at Linville Gorge well before Coronavirus became a thing! Planning for their epic elopement began last summer, as they described every detail of how their perfect day would be. They wanted their day to feel intentional, intimate, and they wanted to share it with just a few family and friends.

The day finally arrived! In the wee hours of the morning, the day began at Linville Gorge, with a hike up the trail in total darkness as the stars shined overhead. When we got to the right outcropping, Caroline and Evan took turns slipping into their wedding clothes in the trees. We then hiked up the cliff for their gorgeous first look, just as the sun was rising.

After we spent some time exploring the cliffs in the morning light, Evan made coffee on their camp stove (complete with portable pour-over packets, so cool)! They also wrote an entry in their adventure journal that they’ve been keeping since their first date! They both looked dapper with Evan in their suit and Caroline in her David’s Bridal dress.

Caroline and Evan decided to incorporate something really fun into the day – a waterfall ceremony! We drove to a secret waterfall they know and love and rappelled down a muddy slope to get to it. It’s not a complete adventure elopement without a little action! It was definitely one of the more challenging ceremony locations I’ve gone to, but so worth it!

Surrounded by green foliage, golden sunlight, and the rush of the water, it was like Caroline and Evan were the only ones there – just relishing in their new marriage. I’m pretty sure these two are the only people to get married in this sacred place. How cool is that?

After the ceremony, they popped champagne and then we headed to a local swimming hole to cool off.

In the middle of the day, they took a break to nap and freshen up. Afterward, we headed to  Blue Ridge Parkway for a picnic with their family and closest friends. It was gorgeous – everything covered in golden sunset light, fizzy champagne, and the most amazing charcuterie spread from Board and Bread Co.! Their family toasted them, as they shared a beautiful first dance while the sun was setting. It was the most perfect day!
