Catie + Constantine’s All-Day Asheville Adventure Elopement

Catie and Constantine made several different wedding plans before they settled on an all-day Asheville elopement full of adventure. COVID-19 kept reducing their original celebration plans and as they are both surgeons, they eventually decided that an adventure elopement with just the two of them was the safest option. Once they started planning, they realized this was the wedding day they wanted all along!

When it comes to adventure elopements, I am equal parts photographer and planner. Not only am I here to capture your special day, but I’m here to help plan it from start to finish; picking locations based on a couple’s ideas and preferences, creating a timeline, making them a packing list, and helping them think through every part of it!

During their location selection process, Catie said at one point,

“We want to be active, we want to break a sweat, we want to work for our views! We want to pop champagne in the wild somewhere with a spectacular backdrop, and get back to our hotel exhausted, sunburnt (or rain-soaked!), and deliriously happy.”

Those words are like music to my ears!

Catie and Constantine kicked off their wedding weekend with an early-morning, live Zoom ceremony in Philadelphia. Their closest friends and family tuned in online to offer toasts and blessings (what a way to celebrate in 2020, eh)? After the ceremony, they hopped in their car and drove 10 hours to Asheville for round-two!

Once in Asheville, Catie and Constantine hiked up to a cliff in semi-darkness. When they arrived at the cliff, Catie ducked into the trees to slip into her gorgeous dress from BHLDN. Catie held a beautiful bouquet of assorted flowers from Freckled Petal. She emerged as Constantine turned to see her for the first time. His face immediately went to a smile. He was so overwhelmed, grateful, and filled with joy to see his stunning bride.

They quietly and tearfully exchanged vows as the alpenglow turned pink on the mountains behind them. Shortly after, Constantine brewed up some delicious coffee, and we enjoyed pastries from one of their favorite shops in Philadelphia. It was quiet and peaceful and magical, with the light getting stronger and golden and the two of them totally wrapped up in each other.

Then the real adventure began! They hiked back down and drove to Nantahala National Forest where they set out on a 6-mile hike to waterfalls. At first, they slipped back into their wedding clothes and got adventurous, wading into the water and sneaking behind the waterfall.

Afterward, we hiked out to a sunny clearing where we set up the most epic picnic spread from Di Bruno Bros, one of their favorite gourmet grocery stores from where they live in PA. They popped a bottle of champagne, smashed cupcakes in each other’s faces, and laughed and danced in the glowing midday sun.

After lunch, they trekked down the back of the mountain to a gorgeous 50-foot waterfall with a pool at the bottom. They wasted no time in stripping off their hiking clothes and hopping right into the icy mountain stream. They lounged in the sun on the rocks and reveled in their new marriage. It was the absolute perfect way to end this all-day Asheville elopement.
