Katherine + Colin's Intimate Backyard Wedding in Asheville
This wedding is what backyard wedding dreams are made of!! We had the honor of photographing Katherine and Colin’s backyard wedding on a lovely day in June. Set in the picturesque surroundings of Asheville, North Carolina, their intimate celebration was a beautiful reminder of the connection and love that weddings symbolize.
Morning Preparations: A Perfect Start
The day began with a tranquil morning walk with Colin and his family at the UNCA Botanical Gardens. After capturing those serene moments, we headed to the couple’s home, where the preparations for their intimate wedding ceremony were underway. Katherine’s hair and makeup was done by Powder Me Pretty before she put on her Rachel Gilbert dress with her ladies, Colin donning his suit from ARI Boston, and the anticipation in the air set a delightful tone for their backyard wedding.
The First Look: Genuine Emotion
The first look on their own front porch was such a touching and personal experience. Their expressions as they saw each other, the love in their eyes, and the beautiful setting were truly special, and it was a joy to capture these authentic moments. It was so fun to imagine them relaxing on that porch for years to come, enjoying drinks and the warm evening air, and reminiscing on the moment when they saw each other in their wedding clothes for the first time. We love getting to integrate meaning into different parts of a couples’ wedding day, and this moment was a perfect example of that.
Following the first look, the couple had a chance to escape to Lake Powhatan while family and friends arranged flowers back at the house. There, they enjoyed a walk, a picnic, and personal time in a flexible and relaxed environment. These moments allowed us to cultivate a private atmosphere for personal portraits, ensuring some time for the couple to have to themselves on their day. First look experiences with Wilder Weddings Co are so much more than just a photo op; We work with our couples to create genuine experiences that allow you to slow down and truly feel the connection and joy of the day, as well as connect to the commitment you’re about to make to each other. We want every part of your day to be about your experience, not just about the photos.
Intimate Ceremony and Celebration: Heartfelt Moments
The backyard ceremony, officiated by Love & Wisdom, was an emotional highlight of the day, filled with heartfelt vows and surrounded by closest family and friends. The cocktail hour, family photos, and relaxed ambiance all contributed to the intimate and joyful spirit of their celebration. Katherine and Colin planted a tree together during their ceremony to symbolize their growing love and blossoming marriage. We love seeing unique unity ceremonies during our couples’ weddings! Carolina Florist provided beautiful florals, and after their ceremony they shared a champagne toast with their family and friends, as each guest shared thoughts and love through emotional toasts. Even their baby niece got in on the action, rounding the group and toasting with her applesauce pouch! Counterclockwise String Band filled the air with bluegrass tunes, perfectly accenting the casual romance of the day.
An Evening to Remember
The evening unfolded with dinner at Edison Craft Ales + Kitchen in the Grove Park Inn, where they enjoyed cocktails and a delicious meal full of laughter and joy. After this intimate dinner party they headed back to their house for some golden hour portraits in their greenhouse, and then they cut their delicious ice cream cake, crafted by The Hop, and enjoyed the ambiance of the gorgeous backyard they had built together. It was a truly a magical evening surrounded by the people who love them most.
Katherine and Colin’s intimate backyard wedding in Asheville was filled with love, joy, and personal touches that made it their own. It was an honor to be part of their special day, and I’m thrilled to share these memories with you.
